Pune, Jan 6 (Reporter) The 100th All India Marathi Theatre conference was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at Morya Gosavi Sports Complex, Chinchwad on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Marathi people's love for theatre has got this glorious tradition of 100 years and pointed that the Marathi theatre blossomed with the contribution of many great artistes.
The Marathi theatre has seen many changes since the beginning of Vishnudas Bhave's play 'Sita Swayamvar', he said.
In the last 100 years, the theatre is moving forward, overcoming many difficulties while experiencing a golden age, he said.
The Marathi theatre is flourishing due to its content, theme, presentation, scenery and music, the Chief
Minister said and noted that this is evident from the way audiences flock to plays even in age of social media today.
Along with commercial, experimental theatre is also getting good response from audiences, he added.
Shinde assured that the government will provide all kinds of support for the Marathi theatre while making a concerted effort for the growth of the theatre industry.
NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, who was also present at the event, said that theatre is the most effective
medium which is a confluence of all arts.
The main purpose of drama is entertainment, but the work of enlightenment and enlightenment is best done through drama, he noted and pointed that new topics are being introduced by Marathi theatre.
