Mumbai, July 8 (Reporter) As the India Meteorological Department has given an orange alert to Mumbai, the State Disaster Control Department, Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and Railway Administration are working together to provide relief to Mumbaikars, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday.
Interacting with media after visiting the State Disaster Control Cell in the Ministry, the control room at the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation and taking stock of the situation in Mumbai, he said that Mumbai has received massive rainfall ranging from 267 to 300 mm since Sunday night.
Due to such heavy rainfall, water accumulated on the railway line at Chuna Bhatti-Sion area. Railways and BMC have installed pumps to drain the accumulated water immediately, he said.
In the wake of this situation, the government has given the highest priority to helping citizens, and all systems are on 24-hour alert mode, he informed.
Shinde said that due to the holding ponds made by the BMC, water has not accumulated in the Milan Subway and Hindmata areas this year.
The experiment, like micro-tunnelling for the first time in the country, is helping in drainage, he said.
The Chief Minister further said that "since morning, I have been in touch with the Railways, BMC, State Disaster Control Room and Mumbai Police Commissioner to get information about the situation. About 5,000 places in Mumbai are being monitored from the control room of the BMC.
Also, BMC officials are on the field, he said.
A flood gate is being installed at the place of the Mithi River so that sea water will not enter the city during high tide., he said and informed that a system is being made to pump the accumulated water into the river.
The Chief Minister said that pumping stations are being set up at seven places in Mumbai, and the system is ready to help the citizens.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also reviewed the situation on highways, railways and major roads...////...
