Mumbai, Sep 27 (Reporter) A delegation of the Congress party leaders on Friday met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar here on Friday and demanded that Maharashtra director general of police Rashmi Shukla, along with other controversial officials who assist the ruling party, be removed to ensure fair and transparent assembly election in the state. The delegation including Congress state general secretaries Munaf Hakim and Dr Gajanan Desai met Rajiv Kumar and handed him over a copy of a letter that MPCC president Nana Patole had sent to the CEC on September 24, demanding the removal of DGP Shukla. For conduct of fair and impartial assembly election, controversial officials who help the ruling party should be removed. The tenure of DGP Shukla has been mired in controversy, as she has been involved in activities such as threatening opposition leaders and tapping their phones, as well as criminal cases have been filed against her, they stated. Speaking to media persons at the party head office, Patole said that despite her service tenure having come to an end, the BJP-led state government has extended Shukla's tenure by two years. She continues to assist the BJP-led government, and such controversial and suspicious officers should no longer be in office during assembly election, otherwise, the elections will not be fair.
