Mumbai, Dec 28 (Reporter) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole emphasised on Saturday that the entire world saw that Dr Manmohan Singh was not weak but strong as the Prime Minister.
Speaking at a function organised to pay tributes by senior Congress leaders to Dr Singh at the state party headquarters here, he, while expressing grief, said that the death of Dr Singh is a great loss not only to the Congress party but also to the country.
Dr Singh had said that "History will decide if I am weak or strong as Prime Minister", he recalled.
"Today, Dr Singh, who rose from a humble background to becoming the Prime Minister of the country on the strength of his intelligence, is getting recognition as the entire world is paying tribute to him. The country and the world cannot forget what Dr Singh did," the MPCC chief said.
"It is sad that we do not have such a great personality and his dedication to the country will never be forgotten by the country," he further said.
Member of Congress Working Committee and state working president Naseem Khan, president of Minority department Wajahat Mirza, former MLA Subhash Chavan, general secretary Rajesh Sharma, Munaf Hakim, state spokesperson Bharat Singh, Nizamuddin Rain and officials and activists paid tributes to Dr Singh.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, Patole said that Dr Singh thought about how development will reach to the last man. During his 10 years in office as prime minister, he promoted interest of the common man by giving the country MGNREGA, Right to Education, Food Security Act and Right to Information Act.
When the price of crude oil had skyrocketed in international market, he ensured that it had no effect on the common man through proper planning, he noted.
Despite facing constant criticism from the opposition, Dr Singh laid emphasis on development of India, he pointed.
Dr Singh was not proud of anything, even as the Prime Minister, he lived as a common man, he said.
"Dr Singh is a great example for new generation of how can you grow from being a normal person," he added...////...
