Maha: Court grants bail to 3 men accused of assaulting senior citizen in train on charges of carrying beef

Mumbai, Sep 2 (Reporter) A Railway court in neighbouring Thane district has granted bail to three men, who had allegedly assaulted a 72-year-old man onboard an Express train in Maharashtra after accusing him of carrying cow meat, sources in Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed this on Monday. The Railway court had granted bail to trio -- Akash Awhad, Nitesh Ahire and Jayesh Mohite, on Sunday, a day after their arrest, as police had invoked bailable charges against them. The three men from Dhule were travelling to Mumbai to appear for a police recruitment test, when they allegedly attacked the elderly fellow passenger. They were arrested on August 31. Senior citizen, identified as Sayed Ashraf, was carrying buffalo meat, which is not banned, police said after a preliminary probe. The alleged incident occurred on August 28 on the Dhule-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Express. The Jalgaon-based Ashraf was travelling to visit his daughter in Kalyan when a group of men fought with him over a seat after the train left Nashik Road railway station and before it reached Igatpuri, police said.
