Kolhapur, Jul 16 (Reporter) In a new twist to CPI leader Govind Pansare murder case, the District and Sessions Court here on Tuesday cancelled bail of accused Dr Virendra Tawde and directed Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to re-arrest him immediately based on sufficient evidence available against him.
According to public prosecutor Shivajirao Rane, suspect Dr Tawde was earlier arrested by CBI in connection of Pansare murder case, but later ATS took his custody from CBI in 2016 for allegedly giving training to assailants, supplying arms, weapons and accommodation to them. Later in 2018, the court granted bail to Dr Tawde.
However, special public prosecutor appealed against his bail in Bombay High Court, which directed the district court to hold hearing on his bail application.
Accordingly, in today's hearing, special public prosecutor Harshad Nimbalkar and Rane requested the district court to cancel the bail of accused Dr Tawde, as there are enough evidences available against him.
Based on their argument, District and Sessions Judge (3) S S Tambe cancelled the bail of Dr Tawde and ordered ATS to re-arrest accused.
Dr Tawde, who was also arrested in Pune-based rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case, had been acquitted from this case and on this ground, the defence lawyers had requested the court for his release on bail.
