Mumbai, Jan 22 (Reporter) The KEM Hospital, which has taken an unceasing vow of patient care, is a true support of Mumbaikars, said Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday.
He was speaking at the Centenary celebration of Seth Govardhan Sunderdas Medical College and KEM Hospital held in the hospital premises.
"I bow at the feet of KEM Hospital, which has completed 100 years of uninterrupted patient care and has given life to lakhs of patients," he said on this occasion.
Despite shortage of medical and care givers, the doctors, nurses, staff are providing utmost care to the common Mumbaikars, he said.
"Our culture says that service is the highest value... This hospital was built 99 years ago with this oath," he asserted.
Today KEM Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the country, where every patient is taken care of, he said while citing an example of Aruna Shanbagh, who was taken care of by KEM staff for 41 years.
KEM has embraced modernity while preserving the cultural heritage, he said and pointed that KEM has established a new direction and international standards in the health sector.
Shinde recalled that the first heart surgery in India was performed at KEM Hospital in 1968, India's first test tube baby was also born in this hospital in 1987 and in 2024 a successful heart transplant was done here.
Now, knee joint surgeries are also performed here with the help of advanced robotic technology, he informed and termed this revolution made by KEM in the medical field as historic.
The Ayushman Shatabdi Tower should be erected in KEM so that patients who come here with faith do not lack space, he added...////...
