Maha: EC official denies Anushaktinagar constituency candidate's objection about EVM

Mumbai, Nov 24 (Reporter) A day after a candidate raised an objection about functioning of electronic voting machine (EVM) on the counting day of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Election Returning officer for Anushaktinagar assembly constituency on Sunday dismissed the objection as 'inappropriate'. The candidate, while raising objection, had stated that the EVM power pack status was showing 99 percent in some Control Units (CUs) even after EVM had been in use for a full day at a polling station in Anushaktinagar constituency. To which, the Returning Officer has informed that EVM Power Pack is designed to connect four Ballot Units (BUs) with one CU with 2,000 votes in accordance with Election Commission of India guidelines for EVM. The voltage drops very slowly when the capacity is high but drops rapidly when the battery capacity drops below the 'threshold', he said. If there is a light current with a single BU and less than 1,000 votes recorded, the battery current is low and the output voltage cannot go below 7.4 V and thus 99 percent capacity can be indicated, he explained. In such a situation, this is a common situation and the objection regarding this is inappropriate and it is also inappropriate to spread misunderstanding in this way, the officer said and added that EVM powerpack status showing 99 percent even after polling is technically factual...////...
