Mumbai, Dec 29 (Reporter) The much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on Sunday witnessed its first successful commercial landing on the 8/26 runway with an Indigo A320 aircraft which took off from Mumbai.
Those present near the runway 8/26 cheered as the plane landed successfully.
“This is a momentous day for Navi Mumbai International Airport. The successful completion of the validation flight is a major milestone, and we are now one step closer to operationalising the airport, prioritising safety at every step. We are grateful to the DGCA and all the agencies involved in making the validation flight trial successful. NMIA will not only offer world-class aviation facilities, it will also enable the overall development of the region,” said Arun Bansal, chief executive officer, Adani Airport Holdings Limited.
In October, an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-295 aircraft successfully landed on the south runway. This inaugural landing not only tested the runway itself but also the taxiways, air traffic control systems, and overall handling procedures.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport, which began construction in August 2021, is expected to be operational by early 2025. Once completed, it will become one of the largest greenfield international airports in the country, with a capacity to handle 60 million passengers and 1.5 million tonnes of cargo annually, as outlined in its Concession Agreement...////...
