Maha govt announces probe into Mumbai boat tragedy

Mumbai, Dec 19 (Reporter) Maharashtra government on Thursday announced a detailed probe into the Mumbai Elephanta boat tragedy involving the death of 13 persons while 101 passengers were safely rescued. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in a post on X, said that the accident of a passenger boat belonging to Neelkamal Company in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai is deeply tragic and unfortunate; the next of kin of the deceased will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund while the Navy and the state government both will initiate a detailed enquiry. He said that as per the information received till 7:30 pm, 101 passengers have been safely rescued, and as per the info given by the Navy’s Vice Admiral Sanjay Jagjit Singh, 13 persons have been declared dead by Navy doctors, including 10 civilians and 3 Navy personnel, while two injured are under treatment at the Navy hospital.
