Maha: HC grants bail, suspends gangster Chhota Rajan's life sentence in hotelier murder case

Mumbai, Oct 23 (Reporter) The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted bail and suspended the life sentence awarded to gangster Chhota Rajan in the hotelier Jaya Shetty murder case of 2001. In spite of the bail and suspension of sentence, the gangster will continue to remain in jail in connection of other matters against him. Rajan was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the case in May this year for his involvement in the Jaya Shetty murder case. Shetty, owner of the Golden Crown hotel at Gamdevi in central Mumbai, was shot dead allegedly by two members of Rajan's gang on the hotel's first floor on May four, 2001. A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj Chavan, while granting bail, directed him to furnish a bail bond of Rs one lakh. The bench passed the order on an appeal filed against the conviction in the Jaya Shetty murder case. The gangster sought that the sentence be suspended, and he be granted bail in the interim...////...
