Maha: IAC chief objects to BJP leader's statement on Nashik incident

Pune, Aug 17 (Reporter) Objecting to BJP leader Ashish Shelar's provocative statement on a stone-pelting incident during a march by Hindu community in Nashik on Friday, social activist and India Against Corruption (IAC) national president Hemant Patil on Saturday condemned it and appealed BJP leaders to speak carefully on issue of Nashik incident. In a press statement issued here, he cautioned that due to Ashish Shelar's arrogant statement, there is a possibility of a rift in the society that may lead to social unrest. He further said Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj has also made the provocative statement. In light of this, he made an appeal to the ruling BJP and Eknath Shinde group to speak with caution as there could be strong feelings in the minority community. Patil sought to remind them that the country runs on the Constitution written by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. "India's democracy is the biggest in the world, but the rulers are forgetting this. The ruling BJP and Shinde group are working to burn their own nest by denigrating other communities in the name of Hindutva," he noted. "Shelar has made a provocative statement on the Nashik incident, we condemn it," he said and asked the government to take action against those who are creating discord in the society by making arrogant statement," he said and appealed for maintaining peace and social harmony in the society.
