Maha: Minister performs 'bhoomipoojan' of Melacha dam in Nashik

Nashik, Oct 6 (Reporter) The proposed dam at Mamdapur is an important project for the north-eastern part of Yeola taluka in the district which will increase irrigation capacity and will benefit local farmers, asserted Maharashtra Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Sunday. Speaking after performing the 'bhoomipoojan' of Melacha dam at Mamdapur in Yeola taluka, he further said that a storage tank will be constructed at Yeola (Melacha dam) at a cost of Rs 15.74 crore. As this project is coming up in Mamdapur reserve conservation area and will be realised on 28.06 hectares of land of Forest department, various permissions from the state and central Forest and Environment department have been taken, he said. After that, the Water Conservation Department had sent a proposal to the Departmental Empowerment Committee of the central government at Nagpur after fulfilling various conditions, he informed. The Committee has approved the proposal for stage-1 land transfer of this storage pond in Mamdapur reserve conservation area, he said and informed that the work of this project would be completed within a year. The government is committed to overall development of Yeola taluka, he said and pointed that creation of the Shiva Srishti in Yeola has increased tourism in the area. Bhujbal also performed the bhoomipoojan of a proposed storage tank at Devna in Yeola taluka. He said that the work of Devna lake is expected to be completed at an estimated Rs 15.65 crore.
