Mumbai, Sep 24 (Reporter) The leaders of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) paid glowing tributes CPM leader late Sitaram Yechury in a programme held at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre here on Tuesday.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole, NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar, PWP leader Jayant Patil, former MP Kumar Ketkar, Hussain Dalwai, Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi, Polit Bureau member Ashok Dhavale among hundreds of activists were present.
Speaking on the occasion, MPCC president Patole said that CPM leader Sitaram Yechury was a member of the Rajya Sabha, he consistently raised the issues of grassroots people in Parliament.
He further said that Yechury fought to keep the country's Constitution and democracy intact, at the same time, he contributed greatly in bringing together like-minded parties in the country.
He took the initiative in forming the UPA government in 2004 and did an important job of keeping all the parties together during the UPA government. He also made a great contribution in forming the India Alliance in 2024.
The CPM leader strongly opposed the policies of the Narendra Modi government, Patole said and added that Yechury's death is not only a loss to the Marxist Communist Party but to the country as well.
Sharad Pawar described Yechury as a very intelligent personality and said he contributed immensely to the student movement.
Yechury worked hard to keep the alliance united during the UPA government under the leadership of
Manmohan Singh, he reminisced.
