Kolhapur / Ratnagiri, Sep 23 (Reporter) NCP (SP) president, Sharad Pawar on Monday strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for describing the Congress party as 'Naxalite', saying that the use of such language by the prime minister is not suitable to him.
While addressing a rally in Chiplun town of Ratnagiri district, he said that the Congress party has made an immense contribution for development of the country since independence and its leaders including former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed their lives for the country, he noted.
He said, "During the Congress party's rule, the country has earned respect around the world and Modi
mentioning such party as 'naxalite' is not right. The use of such a language by the prime minister of the
country is not suitable to him. Hence, I will go to Delhi and meet Modi and ask him to refrain from using such language."
Recalling his stand against former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the NCP supremo said that she also belongs to this country and the next generation of Gandhis is now working for the country.
On this ground, it was wrong of PM Modi to call the Congress party as a Naxalite party or a party of the corrupt, he continued and said he will meet Modi to express his protest for use of such language.
On collapsed statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot fort in Malvan of the district, Pawar made light of the state government's explanation that the said statue collapsed due to wind, saying that it has crossed all limits with this statement.
He alleged that there was corruption while installing the statue.
The state government should keep in mind that the Chhatrapatii Shivaji Maharaj's statue at the Gateway of India has been standing since 1961, he added...////...
