Kolhapur, Sep 4 (Reporter) NCP (SP) national president and MP, Sharad Pawar, on Wednesday took a swipe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for presenting a distorted account of history to public, particularly young generation.
Notably, Fadnavis had recently sparked a controversy by saying that the legendary Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had not plundered Surat in Gujarat. Additionally, he had also claimed that former prime minister late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had shown Shivaji Maharaj in a "poor light" in his book 'The Discovery of India'.
Reacting on this in a press conference here, the NCP supremo remarked that it was wrong to present false history of Chhatrapatii Shivaji Maharaj before the public, that too youngsters, which could lead to
misunderstanding in society.
He further said that those who have devoted their lives to writing and researching history, have the right to present the facts and speak on this.
Renowned history researcher Dr Jaysingrao Pawar has clearly stated that Shivaji Maharaj raided Surat not once but twice, however the purpose of these raids was different, he said.
Another history researcher Indrajeet Sawant has also seconded the opinion of Pawar (Jaysingrao) in this matter, he noted and said that on this ground, no one should present false accounts of history.
Asked about whether the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has decided the chief minister's face for upcoming assembly election in Maharashtra, Pawar said, "We would together decide on the chief ministerial candidate after discussions considering the highest number of seats won by a party in alliance."
On issue of seat-sharing process among MVA partners, he said that they will begin talks on this issue in next two to three days.
He said that the Left parties, including Peasants and Workers Party, which helped MVA in Lok Sabha election, will also be included in seat distribution discussions.
He exuded confidence that people of the state would bring change in power as witnessed in recently held Lok Sabha election.
Replying to a question, the NCP chief pointed out the double talk of the BJP-led central government, saying that in his address on Independence day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked about the need of One Nation, One Election but only next day, it announced the state assembly elections in Hariyana and Jammu & Kashmir.
Taking this into consideration, it is evident that the government says one thing and does another, he noted.
On the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) coming out in support of caste-based census across the country, he said that there was nothing wrong in it.
On ongoing State Transport workers' strike in the state, he asked the state government to consider their demands sympathetically in view of celebration of the Ganesh festival.
On many leaders from other parties willing to join NCP-SP, the party chief said, "We are considering their works and their usefulness in that region while welcoming in our party."
On collapse of Chhatrapatii Shivaji Maharaj's statue at Rajkot fort in Malvan tehsil of the Sindhudurg district, Pawar said that people were alleging that there was a big corruption in installation of this statue.
He asked the government to conduct a detailed inquiry into these allegations and if they were found to be true, then the government should take a stern action against the guilty persons, he added...////...
