Mumbai, Feb 7 (Reporter) NCP chief spokesperson Anand Paranjpe on Friday launched an attack on the Congress party stating that it has resorted to stirring up old issues anticipating defeat in the Delhi assembly election.
While responding to the statements made in the joint press conference by the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, he made a sharp counterpoint, mentioning that after 31 MPs were elected in Maharashtra following the Lok Sabha elections, no press conference was held stating that the voters’ list was flawed.
He pointed out that from the 2019 Assembly election to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the voters’ list had increased by 32 lakh, and from the Lok Sabha to the Assembly elections, 39 lakh voters were added.
He stressed that after the Lok Sabha elections, all political parties worked towards registration of new voters for the assembly election, and Congress was not trailing in this effort.
He pointed out that the voter count in the assembly elections generally increase after the Lok Sabha elections.
In response to claims made in the press conference that there are more voters than the population, Paranjpe explained that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Census scheduled for 2020 did not take place, which may have caused discrepancies in voters' data.
He clarified that the Election Commission had increased the number of polling stations by 25-30, especially in urban areas, compared to the ones in the Lok Sabha elections, which naturally led to a rise in the voter's list.
Paranjape further criticised the Congress and its allied partners for not raising objections about the voter's list or EVMs (electronic voting machines) after the success in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra...////...
