Mumbai, Nov 24 (Reporter) Despite the women-centric Ladki Bahin Yojana having played a major role in the Mahayuti's resounding victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the number of newly elected women legislators has come down to 21 this time from 24 elected in 2019 elections.
This year, of total 4,136 candidates in fray in assembly elections, about 250 of them were female candidates. That means only six to seven percent of total candidates got a chance. Now, the number of elected female candidates is only around seven percent.
In the counting of votes held on November 23, only 21 out of 250 female candidates emerged victorious.
Among them, 14 were of BJP including Shweta Mahale from Chikhli, Meghna Bordikar (Jintur), Devyani Farande (Nashik Central), Seema Hire (Nashik West), Manda Mhatre (Belapur), Manisha Chaudhary (Dahisar), Vidya Thakur (Goregaon), Madhuri Misal (Parvati), Monika Rajle (Shevgaon) and Namita Mudanda (Kaij), Srijaya Chavan (Bhokar), Sulabha Gaekwad (Kalyan East), Sneha Pandit (Washim) and Anuradha Chavan (Phulambri).
Two from the Shiv Sena (Shinde), namely Manjula Gavit from Sakri and Sanjana Jadhav from Kannad.
Four from NCP (AP) including Sulabha Khodke (Amravati), Saroj Ahire (Devalali), Sana Malik (Anushaktinagar) and Aditi Tatkare (Srivardhan).
Lone woman candidate of opposition Congress, Jyoti Gaikwad, from Dharavi.
