Mumbai, Nov 2 (Reporter) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant on Saturday apologised for his "imported maal" remark against Maharashtra CM Eknath Shide-led Shiv Sena's Mumbadevi candidate Shaina NC. Talking to media here, he said that he was being "deliberately targeted" as he would never insult women and stated that his statements were "interpreted differently." Notably, interacting with media during the poll campaigning a couple of days ago, Sawant while referring Shaina Nana Chudasama, a fashionista popular as Shaina NC, had remarked that she stayed all her life in BJP and now, look at her… Humare yahan imported maal nahi chalta (imported material does not work here). Only original ‘maal‘ works here. We have the original material (pointing towards the candidate)." Later, Sawant had claimed that he had very close personal equations with Shaina NC and she may have misunderstood his (‘maal’) comment. The Nagpada police station on Friday (yesterday) registered an offence against Sawant on a complain made by Shaina NC. Reacting on Sawant's remarks, Shaina NC said, "This is the same Arvind Sawant for whom we had campaigned in 2014 and 2019. Look at his thinking when he calls a woman 'maal' (item). I would like to tell him that this same voter will make him 'behaal' in the elections...////...
