Maha: Shinde promises to give reservation to Maratha community

Mumbai, Oct 16 (Reporter) In a bid to counter aggressive stance taken by quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil on issue of Maratha reservation in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Wednesday that he will give reservation to the Maratha community without disturbing reservation of OBCs. Addressing a joint press conference of Mahayuti, he assured that "I myself will give reservation to the Maratha community without compromising reservation of OBCs." "At the Dussehra Melava (rally), I paid obeisance to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and took an oath to give reservation to the Maratha community. After that, a special session of the state assembly was convened and reservation was given to the Maratha community," Shinde recalled. Previously, then chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had also given reservation, but it could not stand in the court, he said. The Chief Minister said that Jarange-Patil has come to the streets demanding justice for the Maratha community, but he should also think about what the Mahayuti government has done for the Maratha community. He said that the Mahayuti has given concessions to Marathas through institutions like Sarathi and Annasaheb Economic Development Corporation. "Those who were in power earlier, never gave reservation to Maratha community," he said in veiled attack on Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and noted that the Maratha community was used only for votes. He asked Jarange-Patil to think about who gave and who deprived the Maratha community. Shinde targeted the opposition MVA for going to court to block the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme and dared them against stopping the scheme.
