Maha: Shinde seeks Mitra's help for overall development

Mumbai, Aug 12 (Reporter) While achieving the state's goal of becoming one trillion dollar economy, Maharashtra Institute for Transformation (Mitra) should focus on other important sectors such as agriculture, health, education, environment, infrastructure and energy as well, said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday. Presiding over a meeting of the governing body of Mitra held here at his official Varsha bungalow, he said that one trillion dollar economy of Maharashtra will play an important role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of five trillion dollar economy. Maharashtra has already achieved the goal of half a million dollar, he informed. He asked the researchers from Mitra to concentrate on climate change, new experiments in agriculture, to promote organic farming and completion of 123 irrigation projects in the state. He also asked them to focus on complementary matters in Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region. On this occasion, the Chief Minister launched the Maharashtra Responsive Development Programme and said that citizens will benefit from it and will also contribute to development of the state. He said that the Maharashtra Development project, recommended by the Maharashtra Economic Development Advisory Council, will promote development of the state at the district level. He said that Maharashtra-Responsive Development Programme will be implemented with the help of the World Bank to control the floods in the Krishna-Bhima valley, especially in Kolhapur and Sangli districts. On occasion, the Chief Minister also launched the Institutional Capabilities (Mahastride) in line with the central government's policy of strengthening institutional capacity and increasing development and income growth for the districts...////...
