Maha: Speaker orders Govt to act on Oppn's allegation of fake driving licence scam

Mumbai, Jun 29 (Reporter) Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar on Saturday directed the state government to take a serious note of the matter of alleged dubious driving licence scam being raised by the Opposition in the House and take appropriate action on the same. He gave this direction after the Opposition raised the issue of 76,000 dubious driving licences issued by the Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO), without conducting proper driving tests on authorised vehicles, on the third day of ongoing Monsoon session of Assembly. Raising the issue in detail, Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar and Congress state president Nana Patole alleged a massive scam of Rs 125 crore rampant in the Andheri RTO where the driving licences (DLs) were issued. Opposition members alleged that a large number of driving licences were issued in 2023-2024, with suspected driving tests conducted on invalid vehicles. The massive scam came to light in the Maharashtra Accountant General (Audit II), during a test check of 1.04 lakh licences through the online data of SARATHI regarding the processing of applications of DLs after conducting the mandatory driving tests of the applicant/ candidates.
