Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, July 7 (Reporter) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a jolt on Sunday when the former deputy mayor of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Raju Shinde, along with his followers, joined Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, Shinde crossed over from the BJP to SSUBT in the presence of its chief Uddhav Thackeray. Those who joined the Thackeray-led party along with Shinde included former corporators Gokul Malke, Pralhad Nimgaongar, Akram Patel and Prakash Gaikwad among 16 others. Speaking on the occasion, Thackeray said "I have come here deliberately because unfortunately our party candidate lost the recent Lok Sabha election and a Gaddar (traitor) won the seat. I want to tell them that our party will win in the upcoming assembly election." He said in the Lok Sabha election the fight was to save the Constitution, but the upcoming assembly election will be fought for Maharashtra's identity. It may be noted that before Shinde formally joined the UBT, senior BJP leaders Haribhau Bagde, Atul Save and Raosaheb Danve met him on Saturday and tried to convince him to stay in the saffron outfit. Two days back Shinde had said: “The BJP here is only working for the Eknath Shinde camp. even during the recent general election, we selflessly worked for them, and after winning, they did not even have the basic courtesy to give credit to us. "Many selfless workers are feeling suffocated in BJP. Even common people are upset over the politics of breaking up parties," he had said. In the 2019 assembly elections, Shinde contested as an independent from Aurangabad West constituency and bagged over 43,000 votes.
