Bhubaneswar, Oct 7 (Reporter) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday urged the Centre to deploy 12 companies of CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) for a period of two years to prevent infiltration and eradicate Naxalites from the state in a time-bound manner. Speaking at a meeting convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on left-wing extremism, Majhi also requested that the Central Forces not be withdrawn from the LWE (Left-Wing Extremism) areas. The Chief Minister said that to counter the Naxalites, the state government has raised three battalions of ex-servicemen under the OSSF (Odisha Special Striking Force) and that vacancies in other ranks of the police are being filled in a time-bound manner. He added that until the newly recruited forces are deployed on the ground, there is an urgent need for effective area domination to prevent infiltration from Chhattisgarh and to enhance intelligence-based operations. Therefore, the central forces should be deployed in the area. Majhi also requested that a dedicated helicopter be provided to the state, as uninterrupted helicopter services are a critical requirement for the movement of security forces, maintenance of forward posts, and responding to emergencies in the LWE conflict zone. The Chief Minister said that everyone acknowledges and appreciates the deadline given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to end the Naxalite menace by March 2026. The Odisha government, he said, will continue to work in close coordination with central agencies and neighboring states to eliminate this threat in less than two years. Majhi expressed confidence that, under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the effective execution by Home Minister Amit Shah, India will be free from this menace sooner than expected. Majhi noted that Odisha has long been affected by this problem. However, with concerted efforts and coordination between the central and state security forces, LWE activities have been significantly restricted, and incidents of violence have been minimised. The security personnel, he said, have managed to free more areas from the influence of the CPI (Maoist), which is now confined to sporadic pockets in ten districts of the state. "We also aim to dismantle their mass support base and discourage the recruitment of local cadres to their ranks," the Chief Minister stated. He added that the Odisha government is working to integrate more areas into the socio-economic and political mainstream by ensuring remarkable progress in every sphere. The Chief Minister highlighted that the Kandhamal-Boudh-Kalahandi axis is now a focus, where, despite sustained and aggressive operations, the Naxals have shown considerable resilience and continue to hold ground in certain areas. All concerned agencies, including state forces, CAPF, the Intelligence Bureau, the State Intelligence Unit, and the Special Task Force (STF), are working in seamless coordination to flush out the Maoists from this region, Majhi stated. Majhi also mentioned that the state government had submitted a list of 127 vital roads in LWE-affected areas for early consideration. These projects will significantly improve connectivity and facilitate effective operations by the security forces against the Naxals. He further announced the launch of a new scheme called "Gramodaya," which converges more than 40 schemes to cover all villages in LWE-affected areas of the state. This initiative will provide basic infrastructure and services, helping to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people living in these regions...////...
