Major fire at a slum rendered hundreds homeless, one died, two FIRs

Kolkata, Feb 10 (Reporter) Two FIRs have been registered, including that of naming Ward 36 Councillor Sachine Kumar Sinha after a violence broke out between two groups over a massive fire at a slum near canalside in Narkeldanga in the city that killed a man late last night,official sources said. Over hundreds of people have been rendered homeless following a devastating blaze at Canal West Road in Narkeldanga i In the northern part of the city, Sources said over 18 fire fighting vehicles were pressed into service to douse the flames, which were brought under control after about five hours early today ( 03:00). The blaze rendered everything into ashes, including valuable paper documents, said a woman, who escaped the blaze along with her pre-teen daughter. The fire was first noticed around 10 PM. Fire fighting personnel after cooling off the site rescued an unconscious man and took him to the NRS Hospital where he was declared dead. The victim was Habibullah Mollah (60). Mollah, a resident from Rajbari Patharghata in South 24-Parganas, worked in a paper godown in the area. He used to live in the godown and caught fire in his sleep, sources added. A forensic expert team was expected today to ascertain the causes of the fire, sources added. Meanwhile two FIRs were registered with the Narkeldanga Police station, including that of against local Councillor Sachin Kumar Sinha ( Ward No 36) and another FIR named six persons, including that of Hyder Nawaz and Pappu Singh, said to be the members of two factions of the ruling Trinamool Congress. Sources said after Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim left the scene of fire, the two groups involved in clashes and both the parties filed FIR against each other...////...
