Kolkata, Aug 28 (Reporter) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party BJP of conspiring against the West Bengal government by enforcing an undeclared economic blockade and dared him to face her democratically in the electoral arena.
Addressing the 27th foundation day of the party's students' wing Trinamool Chhatra Paishad on Central Kolkata's Mayo Road, Banerjee alleged that Modi and BJP were conspiring against her government since he took over as Prime Minister in 2014.
Charging the BJP with orchestrating the March to Nabanna (the state secretariat) on Tuesday and subsequently sponsoring the Bengal bandh today, Banerjee warned that her government would not tolerate such things as "we have the right to stop any move to destabilise the government,"
Expressing sympathy for the ongoing agitation by the medics in the aftermath of the alleged rape-murder of a lady doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Banerjee said the striking junior doctors should also understand the hardship the poor people are facing because of their movement.
Banerjee advised the doctors to join their duty gradually and mentioned that the Supreme Court made a similar request recently.
"We have not taken any action against the striking medics so far and the CBI has taken over the murder probe. Therefore the doctors should also understand the hardship of the poor people and gradually resume their duty," the TMC supremo said.
"We want the culprit (in the rape-murder of the doctor) hanged. Why isn't the centre formulating a law for the capital punishment against such crimes on women?" she asked,
Expressing her disapproval of the bandh called by the BJP during the day, she said “We do not support this bandh. We have dedicated this day to the RG Kar doctor. We want justice but BJP today called a bandh.”
She alleged that BJP's bandh was designed to "tarnish" West Bengal’s image and "disrupt" the investigation into the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case...////...
