Kolkata, Mar 1 (Reporter) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Raj Bhavan here on Friday and spent some time with him.
The Chief Minister said she met the Prime Minister at the Rajbhawan as she could not receive him at the Race Course helipad.
She said as per the protocol the Chief Minister calls on the President or the Prime Minister when they visit a state.
The Chief Minister said it was a courtesy call and not at all political.
"We just had some talks and we did not discuss any political issue," Banerjee told reporters outside the Raj Bhawan this evening.
She, however, said whatever she had to say regarding the arrears of the state she narrated it to the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister will stay at Raj Bhawan on Friday night and visit Krishnanagar, Nadia on Saturday. Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of a slew of development projects related to the power, rail, and road sectors at Krishnanagar.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2×660 MW) in Purulia district. This coal-based thermal power project of the Damodar Valley Corporation employs highly efficient supercritical technology.
The new plant will be a step towards strengthening the energy security of the country.
Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system of Units 7 & 8 of Mejia Thermal Power Station. Developed at a cost of about Rs 650 crore, the FGD system will remove sulphur dioxide from flue gases and produce clean flue gas and forming gypsum, which can be used in the cement industry.
He will also inaugurate the four laning of the Farakka-Raiganj Section of NH-12 (100 Km). Developed at a cost of about Rs 1986 crore, the project will reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and contribute to the socio-economic development of North Bengal and the Northeast region.
The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation four rail projects worth more than Rs 940 crore including the doubling of the Damodar–Mohishila rail line; third line between Rampurhat and Murarai; doubling of Bazarsau – Azimganj rail line; and the new line connecting Azimganj and Murshidabad.
