Man killed as traffic signal pole falls, TN CM announces solatium

Chennai, June 27 (Reporter) In a freak accident, a 55-year-old man was killed when a traffic signal pole accidentally fell on him, while another person sustained injuries, in the hilly Kodaikanal in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu yesterday. Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday offered his condolences to the bereaved family members and announced a solatium of Rs two lakh to his family. The deceased was identified as Antonydas, who was pulling his pushcart with leaves, along with his co-worker when the traffic signal pole near the Kodaikanal bus stand got uprooted due to heavy rain and strong winds, and fell on them. Both of them suffered grievous injuries and were admitted to the Kodaikanal Government hospital, where Antonydas succumbed, despite the best of treatment. His co-worker, Suresh was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Meanwhile, in a statement today, Mr Stalin expressed deep anguish and grief over the incident. Terming the incident as unfortunate and occurred due to strong winds, he also offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and announced an assistance of Rs two lakh to the family of Antonydas from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund...////...
