Manchester, Jan 27 (Reporter) Manchester United women on Monday defeated Brighton 3-0 at Leigh Sports village to climb up to second in the WSL table. Ella Toone's thigh injury was like "divine intervention" as it gave her a much-needed break and chance to return to action refreshed, says Manchester United manager Marc Skinner. Toone has scored five goals in three games since returning from injury at the start of this year, including the opener as United beat Brighton at Leigh Sports Village to move second in the Women's Super League. She had been ruled out with a thigh problem in November, that kept her out for the end of 2024, the BBC reported. It followed a difficult few months for Toone, whose father passed away in September. "There was a point we knew she needed a break, especially given the immense impact from her personal life," Skinner said when asked by BBC Sport about Toone's form. "She says it herself, injury was like divine intervention. It is important for Ella that she enjoys herself, if we keep that we will see the best of her." United scored twice in the opening 11 minutes against Brighton through Toone and Hinata Miyazawa, before Celin Bizet added a third with a long-range drive. It continues United's good recent form, putting them seven points behind WSL leaders Chelsea, and maintains momentum from their derby win at Manchester City last weekend.
