Imphal, Nov 3 (Reporter) The people of Manipur celebrated Ningol Chakkouba (inviting women to feast) here on Sunday. The celebration was not done last year in the state due to a crisis that began on May 3, 2023. The government arranged a special fish fair to provide indigenous fish to the populace. Fishery Minister H. Dingko said the state produces only about 35000 MT of fish annually when the requirement is around 50000 MT. Thousands of people purchased fish, vegetables, eatables, and gifts, creating a traffic jam in most places of the state. Married women with their children go to their parental house for a grand feast. Their parents and brothers present gifts on the occasion. Various organisations organised feasts specially for displaced persons. However, thousands of women in various camps decided not to observe the festival to mourn the deaths of their close ones and to protest the inability of the government to help them settle in their houses, which were destroyed by Kuki militants...////...
