Imphal, Feb 17 (Reporter) Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday announced to hold Magisterial Enquiries into the attacks at the DC office, SP office at Churachandpur, and another incident of an attempt to snatch weapons from Manipur Police Training College, Pangei, and 5 IRB, Chingarel.
Biren, addressing the media here at the CM Secretariat, said the government will perform its duty of protecting life and property and maintaining law and order.
Biren said on Thursday night, a violent mob attacked the offices of the DC and SP in Churachandpur, and the mob tore the national flag. He condemned the action of the mob.
N Biren further said a person who threatened the DC and the SP was identified, and an FIR will be lodged. The violence in Churachandpur was preceded by a statement by an MLA from Churachandpur that it was wrong to suspend a policeman for working with militants.
The MLA instigated the people of the district by giving the wrong information that no action was taken in other similar incidents. Biren said in other incidents where there was an attempt to attack police stations and snatching of arms, the Manipur government had suspended police personnel for failure to protect the station. Police also fired at the mob, which led to the deaths of people, the CM said.
Some new organisations based in Churachandpur were threatening the DC and SP, which was unfortunate, and the government will provide all help to all officials and security personnel to perform their duties well, the CM added.
Biren further said that at some places, especially in Sungu, Kakching district, militants were attacking the villagers using bombs and mortar, and there was non stop firing.
The police were instructed to use all available force to help the villagers if the central forces located in the area were not able to stop the attack. Police will also investigate the nature of the arms and ammunition used by the militants by recovering the used ammunition, Biren said.
CM said some organisations used words like buffer zone and boundary, which was unacceptable as the crisis is happening within a state and the government will carry out all necessary activities to resolve the crisis.
N. Biren Singh said financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per individual to 59,800 displaced persons was sanctioned for the third time...////...
