Manipur Governor reviews security, education situation

Imphal, July 9 (Reporter) Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey reviewed the security situation in the state and the crisis at DM University on Tuesday. The DM University, a premier University of the state is functioning without Vice-Chancellor and Registrar and the two posts are managed by two government officials. The Governor was briefed by Major General Ravroop Singh, IGAR (South), about the prevailing security situation in the State. He informed the Governor that Assam Rifles is helping the administration in controlling the situation by deploying its personnel to vulnerable areas including the far flung interior areas of Jiribam district. The force is prepared to face any eventuality at any point in time so that peace prevails anywhere in the State, he assured the Governor. In a separate meeting the Governor discussed the issue of DM University with Education Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh. She discussed the issues about the administration and development of the University. Governor enquired about the issues faced by the students in the absence of a regular Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. She also enquired about the status of joining of teaching and non-teaching staff . Commissioner of Education H. Gyanprakash informed the Governor that the results of the selection examinations will be declared soon. He assured the Governor that steps for the nomination of a UGC member for the appointment process of a new VC will soon be initiated. Chief Secretary, Joshi while briefing the Governor said, the process for the recruitment of a new Vice-Chancellor is in progress, and an advertisement for the same will be issued shortly. Arrangement for appointment of a new Registrar is on, he added. The Governor asked them to expedite ways to sort out all issues pertaining to the students and teaching community. She asked them for speeding up the process of new recruitment including the VC. The Governor enquired about the status of students of various colleges living in relief camps and asked the Chief Secretary to take up necessary steps for them. She also enquired about the implementation of NEP-2020 in the universities and colleges in the State.
