Manipur JD(U) withdraws support to BJP led government, party national leadership refutes

Imphal, Jan 22 (Reporter) The Manipur unit of the Janata Dal (United ) has decided to withdraw support to the BJP-led government in the state. The party with one member decided to withdraw support according to a letter written by State Chief Ksh Biren Singh to Governor on Wednesday. Singh said six JD(U) candidates were elected in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, but five of them defected to the BJP. The defection of these MLAs is currently under trial before the Speaker’s Tribunal under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India. The JD(U) Chief said the lone MLA Adbul Nasir is also seated in the Opposition bench in the State Assembly. The decision by the state unit was however was denied by the JD(U) at the National level. JD(U) National spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad rejected the news as “misleading and baseless". He further said that 'Kshetrimayum Biren Singh, the JD(U) unit president had written the letter without consulting the central leadership'.
