Imphal, Oct 29 (Reporter) The Centre has an initiative to open a medical college in every district of the country, hence Manipur government is considering setting up more medical colleges in some other districts of the State like Thoubal and Ukhrul, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren said on Tuesday.
N. Biren Singh also launched a revised State Action Plan on Climate Change and Human Health.
The CM was attending a virtual programme at District Hospital, Thoubal where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple projects related to the health sector worth over Rs 12,850 crore at All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi. The PM also laid the foundation stone of Critical Care Block at District Hospital, Thoubal, Manipur (under PM- ABHIM)
N. Biren Singh stated that the estimated cost for the construction of the said block is around Rs. 16 crore. The Chief Minister said that the State government launched the Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) on January 21, 2018 while Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) was launched by the Prime Minister on September 23, 2018, to provide cashless medical treatment to the poor and needy people.
Under AB-PMJAY, senior citizens above 70 years of age irrespective of their income would get up to Rs 5 lakhs for free treatment in the empanelled hospital, he mentioned.
N. Biren Singh also mentioned that the government had launched ‘War on Drugs’ in the State to save the present and future generations. The influx of illegal immigrants with fake Aadhaar cards is a big threat to the indigenous population of the State, he added. Also, the government has already imposed a strict legislation on the buying and selling of land in the State whereby any land transaction needs to be approved by a Cabinet Sub-Committee.
