Bengaluru, Dec 27 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday paid a heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on social media platform X, calling him a world-class economist who shaped India's economy for the benefit of the middle and poor classes. Reflecting on Singh's remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the world's leading economists, Siddaramaiah lauded his contributions to the nation's growth. "Manmohan Singh was a world-class economist who shaped the country's economy for the benefit of the middle and poor people," the CM said , emphasising Singh’s role in transforming India’s economic landscape. "Born in a very poor family, he grew to become one of the world's greatest economists and served as the Prime Minister of India twice," he remarked. Siddaramaiah highlighted Singh’s modest nature, describing him as a "soft-spoken, moderate-spoken man" who worked tirelessly for the economic welfare of the nation. He went on to praise the former PM’s leadership and decision-making across several key positions, including as Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister for a decade. "His tenure as Prime Minister was marked by significant economic reforms," he said. "Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi gave up the post of Prime Minister and chose Manmohan Singh, who made full use of the opportunity and led the country very strongly for ten years." The Chief Minister lauded Singh for his pivotal role in liberalising India's economy, an effort that injected new vitality into the nation’s growth. He further acknowledged Manmohan's work to uplift the poor and middle class, crediting him for key legislation such as the Food Security Act, the Right to Education Act, and the Right to Information Act. "Singh succeeded in economically uplifting the poor and middle class of the country," said Siddaramaiah. Recalling his personal interactions with Singh, the Chief Minister shared that during the launch of the Ambedkar School of Economics, the former Prime Minister had praised Karnataka's economic strength, adding that Singh's insights had been instrumental in solving many of the country's challenges. He concluded by reflecting on Manmohan’s humility, citing the former Prime Minister's own words: "Even though my work did not get much recognition when I was alive, our work will get more importance in the future." The tribute was part of Siddaramaiah’s remarks at a condolence meeting organised by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in memory of the late Manmohan Singh.
