Mumbai, May 16 (Reporter) Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Ambadas Danve has written to the State Chief Election Commissioner demanding inquiry into large expenses over road repair and sanitation work on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign route in Mumbai.
In his complaint on Wednesday evening, Danve demanded proper action against relevant officials in the case of violation of the model code of conduct.
The Lok Sabha election process is underway in the state and the model code of conduct announced by the Central Election Commission kicked in over a month ago. So the large amount of road repair work being done for the meeting of Prime Minister Modi was using budget of the local administration.
In a way this is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct, Danve said.
He said that it was only during the PM's visit taht the violation of MCC was seen at many places, everywhere his meetings were to be held, a large amount of road repair work was being done and the local administration was spending money for cleanliness.
As Modi will be coming to campaign for the candidate from Hatkanangle Lok Sabha constituency in Kolhapur, the repair and cleaning the road from the airport to the meeting venue has been done through the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation, Danve noted.
Danve said this not ordinary times, so the EC must investigate the matter and take appropriate action. The final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra is on May 20...////...
