Shillong, Sep 25 (Reporter) The Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to acquire additional land for expansion of Shillong airport and Baljek airport, so that bigger aircraft could land.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the transport department has given a detailed presentation on its survey conducted along with the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
He said the report and survey which showed that the airport can be expanded so that A320 and Boeing 373 can land.
Currently, the Shillong airport’s runway is short and enables only smaller aircrafts like ATRs to land.
The AAI said that the expansion of the Shillong Airport’s runway by 571 meter can be achieved within a cost of Rs 100 crore to ensure bigger aircrafts to land.
Sangma said the state government would now seek permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and present the proposal of expanding the runway of Shillong airport.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the appointment of former police officer, H Nongpluh, as a non-judicial member of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission.
The cabinet has also approved the appointment of Lt. Col. Sebastian Marbaniang as Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer...////...
