Shillong, Aug 12 (Reporter) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s wife Dr. Mehtab Chandee Sangma has been nominated as the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the upcoming by-poll in the Gambegre Assembly constituency. Conrad, who is also NPP National President, announced this at a public meeting held in the Gambegre area in the West Garo Hills district. The Chief Minister said the party decided to nominate Dr. Chandee due to the public demand from the Gambegre Assembly constituency. “The electorates from Gambegre are in favour of her (Dr. Chandee) and they want her to be their elected representative,” Conrad said. Marak, a close aide of Saleng Sangma, as the candidate for the Gambegre by-election. The opposition Trinamool Congress is likely to put up former Taxation Minister Zenith Sangma’s wife Sadhiarani M. Sangma for the by-poll. Sadhiarani had contested the seat twice in the past and lost by a small margin. Sadhiarani is also a sitting member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) from Dengnakpara constituency. The BJP has proposed the name of sitting GHADC member, Bernard Marak, to contest the Gambegre by-polls. “My name has been proposed and we are waiting for the decision of the Central leaders.
