Meghalaya Women Commission demands action on nun harassment case in Assam

Shillong, Feb 23 (Reporter) The Meghalaya State Commission for Women has strongly condemned the incident that occurred in Assam recently involving the harassment of a nun from Garo Hills after she boarded a bus from Dudhnoi. “Such incidents can have serious implications for the victim, both as a woman and as a religious person. Hence, the Commission urges the Government of Meghalaya and the Government of Assam to coordinate with each other and ensure that the perpetrators are found and brought to justice,” the Commission demanded through a media statement issued on Friday. “Meghalaya is a state that is inclusive of people belonging to all religious beliefs, and we uphold the democratic tenets of our Constitution. We must ensure that religious tolerance and respect are maintained between the peoples of both states and that we continue to live among each other in true harmony,” the Commission underscored. “The governments of both states must strive to ensure that peace is maintained and that culprits are held accountable for their actions that are dehumanising towards any religious person,” the Commission iterated...////...
