Shillong, Sep 27 (Reporter) The Meghalaya government on Friday wrote to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to deny the landing of a chartered flight carrying Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami and his entourage for their proposed ‘Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra’, at Shillong airport. This decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Donald Philips Wahlang after members of various pressure groups gathered at Shillong airport on Friday to prevent Shankaracharya from holding the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra in Meghalaya. After holding a high level meeting, Wahlang said that the decision to write to the AAI was taken to prevent any breakdown of law and order in Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi Hills districts. To ensure there is no escalation of law and order in the state we have decided to write from the government to the AAI to deny them landing facilities for the flight tomorrow,” the chief secretary said. “We have had consultation also with the Central Puja Committee. They have stated very unequivocally that October 2 is very important day in the puja celebrations. They don’t subscribe at all to what this rally is all about and they have not rendered any support at all,” he said. Orders under Section 163 of BNSS have also been issued by the Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi Hills district administrations against the assembly of five or more people for the purpose of any sort of rally, meeting or procession. District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills R.M. Kurbah, in her prohibitory order said that it had come to her notice that some organizations are planning to organise a Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra in Shillong on the 2nd October, 2024 and that the organizers did not seek for permission for carrying out of the Yatra, and added that such rally may lead to break down of law and order in the city of Shillong and the District.
