Srinagar/Anantnag, May 25 (Reporter) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, who is also contesting from the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency, on Saturday staged a sit in protest in Bijbehara against the alleged arrests of her party workers and polling agents.
Polling is under way in Anantnag-Rajouri Parliament constituency where 20 candidates are in fray.
Mehbooba alleged that her party workers and polling agents were arrested and lodged in police stations in Anantnag and other districts of south Kashmir without any reason since last night.
“They are not revealing the reason ..It looks like the Lieutenant Governor, Director General of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police south Kashmir are hand in glove,” Mehbooba told reporters and added “if they feel so scared of Mehbooba Mufti reaching Parliament, the Lieutenant Governor should have told me not to fight the elections.”
“Why are they repeating 1987?” Mehbooba said and added “Their leader and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had given an assurance to the people of Jammu and Kashmir through the voting process..these people are damaging all and repeating 1987”.
She said that our innocent polling agents and workers have been kept in police stations of south Kashmir without any reason. The police are yet to issue a statement on the matter.
Mehbooba also alleged: “There are reports of Electronic voting Machines (EVM) being deliberately defanged at many polling stations.”
“If they have to repeat the 1987 poll rigging, why the drama of polling being held here at all,” the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister alleged.
The PDP president alleged that rigging is taking place and people are being harassed and threatened...////...
