Mehbooba, her daughter put under house arrest ahead of their planned visit to Sopore and Kathua

Srinagar, Feb 8 (Reporter) People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Saturday claimed that she and her mother Mehbooba Mufti were placed under house arrest to prevent them from visiting Sopore and Kathua. Iltija said that the gates of their house were locked. “ My mother & I both have been placed under house arrest. Our gates have been locked up because she was meant to visit Sopore where Waseem Mir was shot dead by the army. I intended to visit Kathua today to meet Makhan Din’s family today & am not being allowed to even move out. Nothing has changed in Kashmir even after elections. Now even comforting the families of victims is being criminalized,” Iltija wrote in a post on X, while tagging J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, chief minister Omar Abdullah and Home Minister Amit Shah in the post. She also posted pictures of the locked gate. There was no official reaction to the house arrest of Mehbooba and her daughter. A civilian truck driver Wasim Ahmed Wasim Ahmed from a Sopore village was killed in the Army firing in Baramulla on Wednesday night after he allegedly jumped a security checkpoint. In the second incident, a 25-year-old man, Makhan Din, a resident of Kathua died by suicide following alleged police torture. The two deaths triggered widespread outrage with chief minister Omar Abdullah calling both the incidents unfortunate and should not have happened.
