Mid sea clash : TN Police register case against 20 fishermen

Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu) Sep 30 (Reporter) A mid sea clash broke out between two groups of fishermen in which two of them were hurt following which the Coastal Security Group (CSG) of Tamil Nadu Marine Police registered a case on Monday night against 20 fishermen in connection with the incident. The mid-sea clash occurred between fishers of Akkaraipettai and Seruthur coastal hamlets in this district. Police sources said an altercation broke out between a group of fishermen from Seruthur village who were fishing in fibre boats and another group of mechanized boat fishermen, hailing from Akkaraipettai over the fishing activities in a particular zone off Kodiakkarai coast last Saturday. It was alleged that the Akkaraipettai fishermen had deliberately attempted to ram their mechanized fishing boat with the fibre boats of Seruthur fishermen, resulting in a clash. Two fishermen of Seruthur village sustained injuries in the clash and both of them were treated at the government hospital here after returning to the coast. Following a complaint from Seruthur village fishermen, the Marine Police of Vedaranyam registered a case under various sections of the the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) formerly IPC against 20 fishermen of Akkaraipettai and are investigating...////...
