Patna, Nov 7 (Reporter) Millions of devotees on Thursday offered "Araghya" to setting Sun in Bihar on the occasion of Chhath festival.
Millions of devotees mostly women thronged on the bank of Ganga river in Patna and other rivers, ponds and water bodies in the state to pay obeisance (Araghya) to setting Sun on the occasion of Chhath festival.
Rituals of Chhath festival began on Tuesday with "Nahai Khai" while " Kharna " was celebrated on Wednesday. Devotees will offer " Araghya " to rising Sun on Friday, marking the end of four day Chhath festival, considered as most pious festival dedicated to nature, which is now being celebrated across the country and also abroad where Indians have settled since long due to various reasons including the quest for earning livelihood.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also offered "Araghya " to setting Sun at his official residence in Patna where his family members observed Chhath festival. A water body has been especially created to facilitate devotees to perform the rituals of Chhath festival.
After paying obeisance to setting Sun, Nitish along with Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and senior officials took a view of Ganga river in steamer and greeted Chhath devotees waving hands to them right from Nasriganj Ghat to Kangan ghat, where lakhs of devotees offered Araghya to setting Sun.
The Chief Minister had himself taken keen interest in monitoring the preparation work for Chhath festival.
Lakhs of devotees were also seen offering " Araghya" to setting Sun at Deo Sun temple in Aurangabad and Aaungari in Nalanda district of Bihar.
Besides Chief Minister, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Chaudhary and other dignitaries also greeted people of Bihar on the occasion of Chhath festival...////...
