Aizawl, Jan 19(Reporter) Mizoram Governor Gen. (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh virtually attended a property card distribution event under the SVAMITVA scheme from Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
The event, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw the issuance of over 65 lakh property cards to beneficiaries across 10 states and two union territories, including 1,754 cardholders from 18 villages in Mizoram.
Governor Singh praised Mizoram for being the first northeastern state to implement the SVAMITVA scheme and acknowledged the efforts of the state’s land revenue and settlement department. He urged officials to continue their work in realising the scheme’s goals and congratulated the new cardholders.
Launched on April 24, 2020, the SVAMITVA scheme aims to provide property ownership documentation in village areas using advanced drone and GIS technology. These property cards serve as legal proof of ownership and can also be used as collateral for loans and other purposes.
Mizoram’s involvement began with the signing of an MoU with the Survey of India on July 8, 2021. Drone surveys in villages lacking revenue records commenced on December 9, 2021, and were completed by December 2, 2024, covering 319 villages across nine districts. The state began distributing property cards on April 24, 2023, and has since issued a total of 2,909 cards, including those distributed on Saturday. Plans are underway to provide approximately 35,000 property cards in the coming phases.
State Land Revenue and Settlement Minister B. Lalchhanzova, Secretary Vanlalmawia, and other senior officials also participated in the event, marking another milestone in the state’s development initiatives...////...
