Aizawl, Sep 16 (Reporter) Amid growing concerns over Mizoram’s looming oil scarcity, given the oil tankers' plan to stay off the state’s monsoon-ravaged highways from Tuesday, Chief Minister Lalduhoma met representatives of a commercial vehicle union to address their challenges. The CM's meeting with the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union comes at a critical time as the national highway-306/6, a major economic lifeline for the state, faces severe damage due to the monsoon. Joined by PWD and Transport Minister Vanlalhlana, Adviser to CM (Finance) T B C Lalvenchhunga, and key PWD officials, the Chief Minister acknowledged that the heavy rainfall and landslides had severely impacted the state’s infrastructure. He noted that substantial resources are being directed towards road repairs, but progress has been hampered by the extreme weather. He urged the union to remain patient, assuring that the government is making every effort to address the situation. Lalduhoma also stated that he plans to personally inspect the Kawnpui-Khamrang road soon. The government has decided to terminate existing contractor agreements and transfer maintenance funds to the Mizoram PWD account, he said. "With state resources also being utilised, repairs are being carried out by three contractors, and 20 truckloads of materials were expected to arrive today," he added. The Commercial Vehicle Union expressed concerns over the suspension of Sumo services due to poor road conditions, requesting swift restoration of routes to resume operations. The union also sought better communication from the government regarding repair timelines. The Chief Minister also informed that the reconstruction of the Kawlkulh-Hliappui road in Manipur has been assigned to a new contractor under the PMGSY-3 scheme, with JCBs and other equipment soon to be made available. The union also raised issues related to high insurance premiums, road taxes, fitness tests, and the influx of private cars from other states, all of which they claim are impacting their livelihood. The Chief Minister assured them that these concerns would be addressed systematically...////...
