Aizawl, Dec 6 (Reporter) Mizoram Police has sustained its vigorous campaign against drugs and illegal activities, resulting in significant seizures across the state.
Three major operations in recent days have uncovered substantial quantities of contraband and explosives.
In the first operation, based on inputs from Champhai Police, a CID Special Branch team intercepted a drug trafficker on the Bawngkawn-Durtlang road on December 5. They seized 90 grams (8 soap cases) of suspected heroin valued at Rs 2.7 lakh and 9.595 kg (approximately 1 lakh tablets) of methamphetamine worth Rs 124.73 lakh in the local market. The contraband, hidden in the door panels of a Hyundai i10 Sportz (registration number MZ-01 J 6240), was recovered from Rodintluanga, 25, a resident of Champhai Zotlang. A case was registered at the Special Narcotics Police Station.
On December 4, a team from Lunglei District Special Branch (DSB) seized 42.38 grams (4 soap cases) of suspected heroin valued at Rs 1.27 lakh. The drugs were found in a Maruti Dzire (registration number MZ-01X-0864) at the outskirts of Pukpui. The vehicle occupants, Lalremfela,
32, and David Lallawmawma, 32, both from Aizawl, were arrested, and a case under the NDPS
Act was registered at Lunglei Police Station.
In another significant operation the same day, a joint team from Thingsai Police Station and 42 Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle at Thingsai Check Gate. They seized a large cache of explosives, including 6,200 gelatine sticks valued at Rs 2.17 lakh, 4,700 detonators worth Rs 1.41 lakh, and 15 rolls of cortex valued at Rs 1.42 lakh.
The explosives, recovered from a pick-up truck (registration number MZ-06 6517), were in the possession of Lallawmzuala, 40, of Pem Veng Thingsai. A case has been registered at Thingsai Police Station to investigate the supply chain.
