Bengaluru, Oct 5 (Reporter) Days after four foreign nationals were arrested in Bengaluru Rural for allegedly possessing fake Indian passports, Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Saturday said more arrests are expected, as intelligence points to other illegal residents from Pakistan.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Parameshwara criticised central agencies, stating they "should be keeping an eye" on such activities, highlighting that the arrival of these individuals in Bengaluru with fake passports "shows a failure" on the Centre's part.
He praised the local police for their swift action, adding, "Our police acted promptly" in arresting the suspects and further revealed that authorities have "information indicating that more Pakistani nationals" are staying illegally and would be apprehended soon.
The four foreign nationals, who had been living illegally in India for nearly a decade, were arrested by the Bengaluru police from Jigani on September 29. According to the Home Minister, they moved to Bengaluru a year ago and were found in possession of fake Indian passports.
Dr Parameshwara questioned the role of intelligence agencies, saying, "If they have been in the country for 10 years, how did the intelligence agencies not get this information? The issue of fake passports is being thoroughly investigated."
Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police CK Baba confirmed that a case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. "The individuals have fake Indian passports, and we are in the process of verifying all the details," he said.
The incident has raised concerns over the security and monitoring of foreign nationals, with state authorities assuring that a comprehensive probe is underway...////...
