Patna, May 14 (Reporter) The mortal remains of former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi were consigned to flames with full state honourS on the bank of the Ganga river in Patna on Tuesday evening.
The funeral pyre was lit by Modi's eldest son Utkarsh Tathagat.
The funeral was attended by prominent leaders, including Union Minister Nityanand Rai, Bihar Minister Prem Kumar, Nitin Navin, Vijay Chaudhari, Tarkeshwar Prasad, Sanjay Jayaswal, BJP activists, and several dignitaries.
The police accorded a guard of honour to the departed leader at the cremation ground.
Earlier, his body was brought to Patna from New Delhi in a special plane during the day and was kept at the state hanger at Prakash Narayan International Airport, where several leaders offered their tribute to the departed soul.
His body was later taken to his residence in Rajendra Nagar, from where the funeral procession commenced.
Sushil Modi's body was also taken to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office, the Bihar legislature premises, and the BJP Party office.
BJP national president JP Nadda, in charge of Bihar unit of BJP Vinod Tawde, Nagendra Pandey, organisational General Secretary Bhikhoo Bhai Dalsania, Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, R K Singh, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Bihar assembly speaker Nandkishor Yadav, senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, Mangal Pandey, Vivek Thakur, LJP( R) chief Chirag Paswan, Congress Bihar unit president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, RJD MP Manoj Jha, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, and others mourned the demise of Sushil Modi.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was indisposed, could not attend the funeral of Sushil Modi. He, however, talked to the family members of Modi on the phone and consoled them.
As it is, Modi, who was suffering from cancer, breathed his last during treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Monday night...////...
