Mumbai, Jan 29 (Reporter) NCP (SP) working president and MP Supriya Sule on Wednesday expressed grave concern over Maharashtra's decline in economic and social conditions as mentioned by NITI Aayog in its report and demanded that the state government should take this issue very seriously and issue a white paper on the same.
While talking to media, she said that Niti Aayog has pointed out that Maharashtra has suffered a decline in economic and social conditions and has termed this as 'very serious'.
The three alliance partners in the state government should take the responsibility for the same and issue a white paper on the same considering the seriousness of this issue as well as give an answer to it, she said.
She reiterated that NITI Aayog has accepted what she has been saying for last two-and-a-half years.
"We have the Fiscal Deficit Act to measure the gap between income and expenditure, which was brought by Atal Bajpai's government to prevent bankruptcy between the central and state governments. In the last two or three years, I have been asking how the relationship between the Centre and the state is. How much money can a state spend? It cannot go into bankruptcy. We have gone from third to sixth state in fiscal deficit," the NCP (SP) leader asserted.
She noted that Odisha and Chhattisgarh have gone ahead of Maharashtra while other states are moving forward.
"But why is Maharashtra lagging behind and this should be considered. This is a very serious issue," she said.
